Chapter 8
The words that Alister had shared proved to be more disturbing than Dalia thought possible. In the middle of the night, she was still thinking about the fact that Alisterâs ex-girlfriend had paid him a visit. In one of their previous conversations, they had talked about their past relationships and she had told him all about the two people she had dated. For her, dating was different. Considering the fact that her parents were always looking to marry her off, she was not exactly looking to introduce a man to her family unless she was sure that whatever they had was something that could last. After all, it was not like she had met a man that wanted any kind of long-term commitment. So, she didnât really know how to handle a situation like this. A situation where she had genuine feelings for a man she didnât feel anything for just weeks before. It was complicated and she wanted to talk to Alister about it but something kept stopping her. For all she knew, this was a non-factor for him. He had probably dealt with such situations for as long as he had been dating.
She crept out of bed as quietly as she could and walked to the living room. She decided not to switch on the kitchen light which was a little too harsh. Besides, it was most definitely going to distract Alister if he stirred in his sleep. She switched on the lamp next to the couch before she got her phone and earphones. The light was perfect. It was all that she needed to entertain herself besides, she had not really settled on what she was going to watch anyway. She needed something to take her mind off everything and there was no better way than indulging in mindless videos. On that particular night, she wished that she was at Alisterâs penthouse instead of a crappy apartment. The balcony would have been a great place for her to be alone with her thoughts. She closed her eyes and leaned back as she listened to her music. She didnât even care what song was playing. All she did was pick one of her playlists, never caring which one was playing. All that was on her mind was Joan Rizzoli. Everyone knew her. She was a sex symbol in Los Angeles, and that was saying a lot about a person in a place that had more perfect bodies than anyone cared to count. There was always an air of elegance around Joan Rizzoli. She was almost always in knee-length pencil dresses and skirts that showed off those perfect long legs. Her long chestnut hair fell beautifully on her shoulders and there were days Dalia found herself wondering if she had any clip-ins in that gorgeous mane she rocked so well.
Dalia had followed Joan Rizzoliâs career for as long as she could, and why wouldnât she? Joan was one of the most high-profile journalists in California. However, of late, she was not as popular on the screens as she previously had been.
